Center of excellence
Academy of Entertainment Arts
The academy is organized into studios, each with its own equipment, coursework and industry certifications. Students choose a studio and build a portfolio across their four years.
Alongside the studios the academy offers a set of electives and a route to industry certifications, and recognizes student work through its own awards program. The academy is supervised by the assistant principal for magnet programs.
Center of excellence
Academy of Culinary Arts
The culinary academy prepares students for the hospitality industry through hands on training in a recently updated commercial kitchen. Students learn to work confidently, professionally and ethically, and explore several fields of the culinary trade before specializing.
The program is directed by Chef Christy Rabich and Chef Tara Bishop, and students compete at the USA regional skills competition.
Magnet program
Cambridge International and the AICE diploma
The Cambridge program began at Hollins in 2011 with 55 ninth graders. It now enrolls close to 300 students on the full diploma track, with a further 200 to 300 students taking individual Cambridge courses without joining the magnet.
The Advanced International Certificate of Education is awarded through Cambridge International Examinations, part of the University of Cambridge, and is offered in more than 160 countries. Florida recognizes AICE as a graduation and acceleration route worth up to 45 college credit hours at public universities and colleges in the state.
Students who earn the diploma, and complete the required community service hours, qualify for the maximum Florida Academic Scholars award without needing to meet the usual minimum grade point average and test score thresholds.
