How this site is built to be usable by everyone, what has been tested, what is still outstanding, and how to tell us about a barrier.
Our commitment
Hollins High School intends this site to be usable by every student, parent and member of staff, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard alone, rely on magnification or high contrast, or prefer reduced motion.
Conformance target
The target for this site is Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the technical standard the U.S. Department of Justice set for state and local government web content in its April 2024 rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and it is the standard this site is measured against.
This site currently reports zero automated WCAG 2.1 AA violations across all of its pages, tested with axe-core 4.10 at desktop and mobile widths. Automated testing catches roughly a third of the guidelines, so the manual checks below matter just as much.
What has been checked
| Keyboard | Every link, button, roster switcher and menu is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus ring on each. A skip link jumps past the masthead to the main content. |

| Structure | One h1 per page, headings in order, landmarks for banner, navigation, main and footer, and an aria-label on each navigation region. |
| Contrast | Text and interface colours meet the 4.5:1 and 3:1 minimums. Colour is never the only cue: links inside body text are underlined as well as coloured. |
| Motion | The player animations respect prefers-reduced-motion and hold on a still image instead. Each clip runs once, under five seconds, and never loops. |
| Media | The two player clips are silent and decorative; the information they carry is repeated in text beside them, and they are hidden from assistive technology. |
| Images | Photographs carry alternative text. Images that are purely decorative are marked so that screen readers skip them. |
| Zoom | Layouts hold to 400% zoom and to a 320 pixel viewport without loss of content or horizontal scrolling. |
| Without scripting | Every page renders and reads with JavaScript disabled. Interactive blocks degrade to plain content rather than disappearing. |
Known limitations
Being straight about what is not done yet:
- Video hosted on third-party platforms is embedded rather than served here, and its captions are controlled by whoever uploaded it.
- The curriculum guide is published as a PDF. Its internal tagging has not been audited, and a tagged or HTML version should follow.
- Roster data is drawn from an external athletics platform and inherits whatever that platform provides.
- No formal audit by an independent accessibility assessor has been carried out. Automated and manual testing so far has been in-house.
Report a barrier
If any part of this site stops you getting to something you need, please say so. Tell us the page address, what you were trying to do and what got in the way, and what you use to browse. Reports go to the front office on (727) 547-7876, or through the contact page.
We aim to acknowledge a report within five school days and to give either a fix or a date for one. If the answer does not resolve it, the matter can be escalated to the district under the Pinellas County Schools ADA grievance procedure.
Getting the information another way
If something here is not reachable for you, the front office can provide it by telephone, in print, in large print or in person. No one should have to use this website to get information the school holds.
